Korea National Park Service Adopts Eco-Friendly Wildfire Retardant FireZip for the First Time
Global Epic · 2025.12.12
The Korea National Park Service (KNPS) will adopt FireZip, AsiaNanoTech's eco-friendly wildfire retardant designated as an Innovative Product by the Public Procurement Service, for the first time. AsiaNanoTech signed a supply contract with KNPS, and the product will be used in a pilot project at Juwangsan National Park in North Gyeongsang Province, which suffered major wildfire damage in 2025.
This is the first time KNPS has introduced an eco-friendly wildfire retardant in its own project. KNPS said FireZip fits its restoration principle of preserving the natural resilience of damaged areas and minimizing human disturbance.
Under certain conditions FireZip fully biodegrades in about 45 days, and its patented technology slows the spread of fire while improving soil cohesion and water retention. KNPS plans to use it to prevent soil loss and retain moisture in burned areas and, depending on the results, will consider preventive use in high-risk areas.
CEO Jin-won Bok said the pilot project will verify that eco-friendly wildfire retardants can be used in public forest management, and that the company will expand cooperation with the Korea Forest Service and local governments.
