FireZip: A Biodegradable Wildfire Retardant That Leaves No Soil or Water Pollution

FPN (Fire Prevention News) · 2025.09.30

FPN, a Korean fire and disaster-prevention trade publication, featured FireZip, AsiaNanoTech's biodegradable wildfire retardant registered as an Innovative Product by the Public Procurement Service.

The article highlighted that FireZip performs on par with conventional chemical retardants while being made mainly from 100% naturally derived bio-materials, so it does not burden soil, water or plant growth after a fire is put out. In the company's own tests it showed biodegradation rates of 89% in 28 days and 93.7% in 130 days.

Because the powder is simply mixed with water at a 0.5–1% ratio, a single 20 kg bag produces up to 4,000 L of fire-retardant water, at roughly a quarter of the cost of making the same amount with chemical retardants.

Jin-won Bok, Head of Management Support, said the company will expand production and supply to meet demand from the National Fire Agency, the Korea Forest Service and local governments, and is preparing tests and certifications for overseas supply.
