100% Biodegradable Fire Retardant FireZip Developed… A New Solution for Wildfires?
M Economy News · 2025.08.18
AsiaNanoTech announced on August 18 the official launch of FireZip, a biodegradable fire retardant made from naturally derived materials. It was developed as an alternative that reduces the secondary environmental pollution caused by conventional chemical fire retardants.
The name FireZip reflects the idea of zipping flames shut. The product covers fire suppression, spread delay, fire prevention and soil restoration, and because it is made from 100% naturally derived bio-materials, it leaves no harmful effects on soil or plant growth after a fire is extinguished.
FireZip applies AsiaNanoTech's U.S.-patented 3D mesh nanocellulose manufacturing process, and a related Korean patent was granted in July 2024. Tests in water and soil environments showed 89% biodegradation within 28 days and 93.7% within 130 days, with 100% biodegradation within 45 days under certain conditions.
Diluted with water at a concentration below 0.5%, it can be sprayed from helicopters, fire trucks or personal firefighting equipment. One 20 kg unit makes up to 4,000 L of solution, more than twice as cost-efficient as conventional chemical agents at about a quarter of the price.
With wildfires increasing around the world, the company is preparing tests and certifications to expand supply to high-risk regions such as California, Australia and Europe.
